A Mama for Owen by Marion Dane Bauer, Illustrated by John Butler

A baby hippo who finds comfort in the presence of his mama suffers lossand uncertainty when he is swept away in a flood. He finds solace in an unexpected friend.

How these stories are connected: Mzee comforts and takes care of Owen. In a similar way, Jesus sees the widow who has lost her only son and has compassion for her.
