Verdi by Janell Cannon

Verdi the snake doesn’t understand why his mother is telling him to grow up big and green when all the other big and green snakes seem lazy, boring, and rude. But when Verdi decides he simply won’t turn green, he finds himself in a heap of trouble.

How these stories are connected: The greens helped Verdi heal, just like the four friends helped their friend. It’s good to have people in your life who know what is good (and know Jesus).

Questions about Verdi:

Why doesn’t Verdi want to turn green?

What are some things he tries to stop himself from turning green?

Who helps Verdi when he gets hurt?

What does Verdi realize at the end?

Questions about the Bible story:

Why did the four friends bring their other friend to Jesus?

What did they do when the room was too crowded to bring him in?

What did Jesus say to the paralyzed man to heal him? Why?

Questions about our lives:

Why is it important to have people in your life who know Jesus?

Can you think of a time when your friends helped you?

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for putting good people in our lives who can give us guidance and teach us about Jesus. Help us to give back to them and shine Your light in the world. Amen.
