Kitten’s First Full Moon by Kevin Henkes

Kitten sees the moon, mistakes it for a fresh bowl of milk in the sky, and tries unsuccessfully to drink it.
How these stories are related: Both Kitten and Jacob try to get something that is unattainable. In the end, the goodness of someone else provides more than they could ask or imagine.

Questions about Kitten’s First Full Moon:

     Where was the moon?

What did kitten think is was?

     Where was the milk?

Who gave it to kitten? Why?

Questions about the Bible story:

Where was Jacob trying to go?

What do you think Jacob was looking for?

What did Jacob see in his dream?

Why did he say, “Surely the Lord was in this place – and I didn’t know it!”?

Questions about our lives:

What special places help you feel close to God?

     What makes them so special?

What do you do in those special places?

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for holy and special places that help us feel close to you. [Have the children name these places, and then give thanks for them by name.] Amen.
