Get Happy by Malachy Doyle and illustrated by Caroline Uff

In a series of comparisons, Malachy Doyle suggests that our own habits and behaviors contribute to our level happiness.

How these stories are connected Some of the stories in the Bible are frightening. Get Happy helps children learn that their feelings are influenced by their own behaviors. “The Red Sea” is a story of victory when viewed by the Israelites, but God must have mourned for those lost in the sea, particularly since they were warned so many times to change their behavior. With this two stories, help children question their own behavior and what they can do for people who are doing mean things.

Questions about Get Happy:

What do the kids do to make themselves sad?

What do the kids do to make themselves happy?

Questions about the Bible story:

Why did the people thank God?

Who led the singing and dancing?

What did they say about God?

Questions about our lives:

     What things make you happy?

How do you thank God when you are happy?

What can we do for people who are doing mean things, like the ones in the chariots?

Prayer

Dear God, thank you protecting us and our families. Help us to be grateful and happy. Help us to pray for the happiness and protection of all people. Amen.
