Same, Same but Different by Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw

Elliot lives in America, and Kailash lives in India. They are pen pals. By exchanging letters and pictures, they learn that they both love to climb trees, have pets, and go to school. Their worlds might look different, but they are actually similar. Same, same. But different!

How these stories are connected: As we discover the things we have in common, we learn to appreciate and even celebrate our differences. Our cultures may be diverse, but we are one people sharing one planet. Peter's dream leads him in a similar direction; although our practices and traditions may differ, God intends all people to share the goodness of God's salvation.

Questions about Same, Same but Different:

How do Elliot and Kailash know each other?

What is different about their lives?

     What is the same?

Why do you they like each other?

Questions about the Bible story:

     What did Peter dream?

     What did Peter’s dream mean?

If everyone is part of God’s family, how should we treat them?

Questions about our lives:

How can we become friends with people who are different from us?

     Why should we try?

 Prayer

God, your love is wider than our land and deeper than the ocean. Help us to love and include people the way that you do. Help us to care about people who are not like us and about people who are far away. Amen.
