Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak

Max is a mischievous boy who gets sent to his room without dinner. That night, his room transforms and he sails across the ocean to the land of the Wild Things and rules over them, but Max grows lonely and decides to return home to his loving family.

How these stories are connected: God made everything; therefore we are safe in God’s heart wherever we are, just like Max is safe on the ocean and in the land of the Wild Things.

Questions about Where the Wild Things Are:

Do you think Max was scared when he was in his boat on the ocean?

Do you think he was scared when he was in the land of the Wild Things?

     Why wasn’t Max scared?

Questions about the Bible story:

Who can we look to for courage? Who can we trust?

Is there anything God can’t protect us from?

Is there any place where God can’t protect us?

Questions about our lives:

How does it make you feel knowing God is always watching over you?

Do you think knowing God is with you will help you be braver in the future?

How can we remind ourselves of God’s presence?

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for giving us hope and courage. We know you will always protect us no matter what. Please help us to trust you. Amen.
