Luke 4:21-30 They wanted to throw Jesus off a cliff
Jesus, our hometown hero

Jesus had barely started his sermon when the congregation became filled with rage. They drove him out of town and led him to the hill upon which their city was built, because they wanted to throw him off the cliff.

What on earth did he say?

He said the Spirit of the Lord was upon him to bring good news to the poor, recovery of sight to the blind, to proclaim release to the captives, let the oppressed to free and announce the year of the Lord's favor. He said that God's healing came to a Syrian and God's provision to a Gentile widow.

They didn't like that too much. He was saying that their God was the God of others. He was saying they might want to develop eyes to see God at work outside of their own circles and in the people they normally didn't pay attention to. And what about us? Do we receive that message any better than they did?
