The Monster Who Lost His Mean by Tifany Strelitz Haber, Illustrated by Kirstie Edmunds

Everyone knows that the M in "monster" stands for MEAN. But what happens when a monster can't be mean any more? Is he still a monster at all? One young monster's attempts to live up to his name go hilariously awry as he discovers―with a little help from new friends―that it's not what you're called but who you are that counts.

How these stories are connected: Onster must choose who he is going to be; whether he will play pranks or do things that are kind. Paul addressed the Galatians with the same sort of challenge and it is up to each of us to choose whether we will honor the prompting of our own spirits, or the Spirit of God.

Questions about The Monster Who Lost His Mean:

What sorts of things do monsters do?

Why do you think the monsters were being mean to the Onster?

Why do you think the Onster started doing nice things?

What do you think about that?

Questions about the Bible story:

How did Paul want the Galatians to live?

What kinds of problems were they having?

     What did Paul teach them?

What do you think about that?

 Questions about our lives:

What kinds of things do you think Jesus wants us to do?

Who do you think can do nice things?

 Prayer

Dear God, please give us the fruit of your Spirit so we might spread your love to other people. Also give your fruit to people who are doing mean things in our world, so they might change, too. Amen.
